How often should digital mole mapping be performed?

For individuals who are not at high risk for melanoma, digital mole mapping should be performed every 6 to 12 months. If you are at high risk of melanocytic skin cancer, your first session should occur 4 months after the baseline, followed by every 6 months or earlier if changes are observed.

Do you check for moles covered by underwear?

Yes. If you have moles under your underwear that you would like to be mapped, please inform your provider upon arrival at your appointment.

Can I bring someone with me to my skin cancer screening appointment?

Children are not permitted, but you may bring an adult chaperone.

What will happen during the skin cancer screening appointment?

You will undress to your comfort level and stand before the FotoFinder camera. Initially, full body photographs are taken, followed by a thorough examination using a handheld dermatoscope. Any moles requiring closer inspection will be marked for additional closeup photographs.
